Nova Scotia has a vibrant and strong residential construction industry and the Nova Scotia Home Builders’ Association (NSHBA) is dedicated to making it even stronger. Members of the NSHBA belong to this association to make a difference in the lives of families by providing them with quality new houses and renovations they are proud to call their own.
The residential construction industry has a direct economic impact on the success of many Nova Scotian businesses as it employs more than 21,000 people across the province, therefore helping to create a stronger economy for our province as a whole. As an association we continue to work to towards building futures and homes for Nova Scotians.
The NSHBA remains dedicated to providing its members with opportunities, through courses and technical conferences, to further their knowledge and continually educate them about the latest building products and techniques to allow them to provide better service to their clients.
It is also a mandate of the NSHBA to educate consumers on the importance of working with a professional - what this means for them; what they should expect from their contractor, including a written contract, warranty protection and after sales service; and what the challenges are associated with choosing not to work with a professional contractor.
As a part of the consumer education process, the NSHBA provides offers consumers with information packages to provide them with a solid start on their research for their new home or renovation project. Consumer seminars are held around the province during Renovation Month and New Homes Month to provide even more information for consumers. The NSHBA produces a home show every year at the Halifax Forum and visitors have the opportunity to participate in consumer seminar workshops, find out about the latest products on the market and talk to the professionals. The NSHBA is an excellent resource for members and consumers to ensure that each group understands how to meet each others expectations.
The NSHBA works closely with all levels of government to help protect consumers’ right to choose where they want to live, have access to affordable housing and to ensure that the industry remains a viable career option. Members are the backbone of the NSHBA and are the reason why we are able to positively affect change within the residential construction industry. Members willingly donate their time to sit on boards and committees, participate in events and initiatives all of which allows them to grow in their knowledge of the industry, provide their clients new and innovative ideas and further the goals and initiatives of the NSHBA.
As always, it is a pleasure to serve as the CEO of an Association that is dedicated to improving the industry, educating consumers and raising the bar for professionalism within the industry. Membership makes a difference and this year I look forward to another rewarding year. |
