Halifax Project
Added
Spaces Renovations completed this addition project in Halifax
in four months.
This was a challenging
project involving in the extension of the kitchen and rear entrance
(see photos 1 & 2).
One of the most
important features of note in this project is the engineering work
that was required to properly address a culvert that existed underneath
the rear of the home. It isn't every day one is required to deal
with what amounted to a small brook running underneath a homes'
foundation
(see photo 3).
While the amount
that the rear of the home was extended was relatively small, it
made a world of difference to the comfort and functionality of the
previously cramped and claustrophobic kitchen. The installation
of new high-quality windows, vinyl flooring and oak cabinets brightened
and beautified the kitchen into a totally new space that still matched
seamlessly into the existing décor (see
photo 4). Original wainscotting was carefully removed and
reused in the new space and existing trim was custom-milled on-site
to ensure that nothing looked "new" or out of place.
Outside, the
addition received cedar shakes matching those already on the house.
Care was taken with both the design and finishes to blend the new
construction into the old. The resulting addition looks as though
it was always there (see
photo 5 & 6).
