Sackville Project
This addition
project, completed by Added Spaces Renovations,
took place in the Sackville area and was eight weeks in duration.
For this project
the clients' primary aim was to add living space, while adapting
their home's interior to better suit their needs. The project itself
consisted of a 20'x20' (approx.), 2-storey addition (see
photos 1 & 2) to the rear of the home, with some interior
renovations to blend the new and old. The additional living space
allowed for the rearrangement and rededication of various living
spaces inside the home.
Upstairs, the
addition provided the owners with a generously sized master bedroom
with ample storage, as well as allowing the washer and dryer to
be located in the new upstairs hall (more in keeping with today's
trend of placing the washer/dryer combo near the bedrooms, where
the majority of the laundry is generated). A full bathroom (see
photo 3) was also placed adjacent to the master bedroom,
servicing the entire upstairs.
Downstairs,
the additional space was utilized to provide a new, expansive recreation
room. A false wall was designed to house a state-of-the-art entertainment
center and propane fireplace in a flush-face installation (see
photo 4). Additional sound-proofing was provided between
floors to isolate sound generated by the surround sound system and
minimize disturbance throughout the rest of the home. The former
recreation room was consequently transformed into a dedicated office/workspace,
a necessity for the clients. This involved the demolition and removal
of the existing masonry hearth and consequent floor repairs as well
as matching into and extending the existing shelving. A second bathroom
was also provided, servicing the downstairs.
Outside, the
existing vinyl siding and soffet materials were able to be closely
matched, saving the cost of a complete residing job. The homeowners
invested in replacing all of the windows in the home with quality
all-vinyl units, opting for a better performance and increased energy
efficiency. Exterior decking was adapted to the new layout of the
home and the new downstairs exterior door (see
photo 5).
