Deck Addition

Adding a deck to your home is like adding an extension to your living space. This is an area that the whole family can gather and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

The project that Gillis TIM-BR Mart undertook in the Sydney area included the building of two decks for the homeowners, one on the front of the house and one in the back.

An interesting feature of this project is that the decks are not like a standard deck that you see on many homes. The front deck was built with the steps extending around the entire width of the rounded deck (see photo 1). This allows the family to utilize this space to exhibit various gardening paraphernalia and blend the deck in with the exterior surroundings of the yard.

On the back of the house, the homeowners wanted something a little different so that the deck would also blend into the exiting home as well as give them additional storage space that not everyone would be able to see. What was done in this renovation was that the lower part of the deck was built in the whole way around it with an archway built to allow for access to the lower level door with an additional walkway. Custom railings were included around the deck surface, as were a variety of wooden benches and tables to accommodate the need of the family (see photos 2 & 3).

This project incorporated a lot of unique characteristics in an otherwise traditional project. The result is a deck that will service the family and add to the exterior of the home.
