K.B.
Clarke restores fire ravaged 120 year old Historic Property
After an arsonist
set fire to the exterior of this historic building in downtown Dartmouth
in December 2001 (see
photo 1 & 2), K.B. Clarke
performed emergency services and was later awarded the tender for
reconstruction. Registered Heritage properties in HRM have extensive
regulations and requirements for any alterations and the original
integrity, materials and consistency must be kept. The above residence
was originally constructed with balloon framing which is a method
of framing seldom used anymore and this allowed the fire to run
all the way to the underside of the attic making deodorization a
huge challenge (see photo
3 & 4). Roof, siding, steps, plaster, decking, windows
were all slowly replaced and restored to its pre-loss condition
and the end product is one in which the owner said "We're ecstatic
with the quality of workmanship and professionalism of K.B. Clarke".
Thanks Guys for a job well done!
