The homeowner of this beautiful home in Halifax needed additional space in which an office area could be located. House lots within the Halifax Regional Municipality are often not as spacious as those located outside of the central core of the city and with yard space at a premium, this family was able to keep their entire yard intact and utilize the existing space within their home. As an alternative to building an additional piece onto the existing home, the homeowners chose to have the original attic transformed into a functional, tranquil area in which they could get their work done with few interruptions. To provide the space that was required for this room, dormer installations were required and during this time, new windows were installed in addition to having the house re-roofed. The interior of the new office area included elegant hardwood flooring, an intricate stairway leading down to the second floor of the home (see photos 1 & 2), and a customized oak red stained-stained bookshelf (see photo 3). This attic renovation was successful in maintaining the home's original look while offering the homeowners the much-needed space (see photos 4& 5). |
